Specifically, what stood out was many people who identified as LGBT having a "later start" than someone who is cishet. With the 1970's beginning many saw it as a way to live through the liberal beliefs held a decade prior. Many queer people began to reclaim symbols, most prominently the pink and black triangles used to identify LGBT people during Nazi Occupation. Others included the Mars and Venus symbols for gay men and gay women respectively. A lot of women's rights also intertwined with lesbians and queer women during the late 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. Women's groups during this time were predominantly gay women and led to screenings for cancers found in female patients. The CDC even included regular screenings into a physician's physical check up.
